What love is by Seelie Kay

About the Book:

Lady Annabelle Trask is missing. Unfortunately, MISix doesn’t know if they’re looking for a woman, a cow, or something in between!

Is it real or is it fantasy? That’s the question MISix Agent Mathilda Honoria Spencer struggles with on her latest assignment. Tasked with discovering the whereabouts of Lady Annabelle Trask, Tillie is thrust into the world of Hucows and other human animals. It’s a world that raises serious questions about sexual fetishes, intentional physical enhancements, and even pornography, but in the end, Tillie has only one mission—to rescue and return Lady Annabelle to the Queen. However, as she and her partner, Agent Abdul Ali, attempt to find Lady Annabelle and keep her out of the clutches of terrorists bent on destroying the monarchy, they must also wrestle with their feelings for each other. Can they draw the line between their duty to the Crown and their relationship with one another? Or must they embark on separate paths to continue to serve the Queen?

What love is

People often assume that because I write tales of romance, I know what love is. So let me be clear. I understand love from a personal standpoint, but it’s different for every person. What may attract my attention may not attract others. People not only fall in love in different ways and at different times, they also have very different definitions of love. Love comes in all shapes and sizes and sometimes, there is simply no explaining it.

I have fallen deeply in love only twice in my life. The first time was with an Irishman I met in New York on an extended business trip. Our eyes met and that was it. Sparks flew. The attraction was overwhelming. He smiled. I melted. Our relationship was intense and within a week, I knew this man was my forever. I wanted to have his babies and grow old with him. We were so compatible, I couldn’t imagine ever being apart. There were late night phone calls, deep and desperate kisses, unrelenting heat. We simply could not get enough of each other. Then it ended, somewhat tragically. My whole world shattered and it took me years to recover.

Several years later, I was leaving a train station and tripped on the stairs, falling into the arms of a stranger. Mortified, I looked into his bright green eyes and felt the butterflies take flight. However, this time I proceeded with caution. I forced him to chase me. I was determined not to make the same mistake. I would not fall into that bottomless pit some called love easily. Nosiree. Not me. It took three years of intense courting before I consented to be his wife. That relationship lasted almost 30 years. Then our lives changed, and what had begun as a passionate love story dwindled into friendship. We both wanted more.

It was at the end of the second relationship that I began to write romance, because although I still couldn’t explain what love is for others, I knew what I wanted it to be. My readers may not always agree with the love relationships in my books, but I hope they admire and respect them.
